What Is GTA 6 Rated? Stores Now List ESRB M, So Check Before You Buy for a Teen
GTA 6 is rated for mature players on every store listing we checked. The PlayStation Store in the US shows ESRB M (Mature 17+), the UK store shows PEGI 18, and the Australian store shows R18+ from the Australian Classification Board. The Microsoft Store listing carries the same three ratings, all read on 13 October 2026, ahead of the release on 19 November 2026.
Rockstar's own site has not caught up. It still carries only a generic line saying the game may contain content inappropriate for children, with a link to the ESRB website, and Rockstar has not announced a rating itself. Until it does, the store page is the most reliable place to see the rating for your region.
What the content descriptors say
Each store lists the reasons behind its rating, and those lists say far more than the age band does, which matters if you are buying for someone else.
- US, ESRB Mature 17+, for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content and Use of Drugs and Alcohol, with a separate notice for In-Game Purchases.
- UK, PEGI 18, for drugs, sexual content and violence, with a notice for In-Game Purchases.
- Australia, R18+, for Drug Use, High Impact Violence and Sex Scenes.
Is this the final rating?
The ratings come from the store listings, and Rockstar has not announced a rating on its own channels, so we treat them as reported rather than confirmed. A store page can still change before launch, which is why the safest habit is to look at the rating on the store page on the day you buy.
With blood, nudity, sexual content and drug use all on the US list, a lower rating before launch would be a surprise. Expect GTA 6 to stay at the mature end of every system it is rated under.
Which countries could ban or restrict GTA 6?
Rockstar has not published a list of countries where GTA 6 might be banned, restricted, or censored, and any such list before launch is speculative. Based on the history of the series and the way some governments have treated past titles, it is still possible that some regions will impose restrictions.
If you are concerned about access, check your local rules on video game content closer to the launch date. Official sources and reputable local retailers are the only way to know for certain whether you can buy and play GTA 6 in your country.
Buying GTA 6 for a teenager
An ESRB M rating in the US, PEGI 18 in Europe and R18+ in Australia all put GTA 6 at the mature end of each system. If the player is younger than that, the descriptors above are the clearest summary of what they would see and hear.
Both consoles let a parent block games above a chosen age rating. On PS5 that sits in the family settings for a child's account, and on Xbox Series X|S it sits in the content restrictions for each profile, so a younger player's account cannot start the game if the limit is set below its rating.
- Read the descriptors on the store page before you buy, since they name the exact content.
- Set the age limit in your console's family settings if a younger player shares the console.
- Ignore any rating that does not come from a store listing or a ratings board.
- Check your local rules if you live somewhere with a history of restricting games.
Pre-order and launch details
Pre-orders opened on 25 June 2026, and GTA 6 releases on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99.
Rockstar has confirmed that boxed copies contain a download code, and outlets report there is no Blu-ray game disc at launch. Pre-loading begins on 12 November 2026.
The bottom line on the GTA 6 rating
Every store listing we checked rates GTA 6 ESRB M, PEGI 18 or R18+, and the descriptors are clear about why. Rockstar has not announced the rating itself, so confirm it on the store page before you buy, and treat any list of banned countries as unofficial until a government or ratings board publishes one.
